Banjos & Bugles: a civil war salute

Village Green

VILLAGE GREEN…10,000 Hours of Arts & Entertainment in Two Years!

Village Green – An Awesome Arts/Net Challenge - Our Mission: Set a new benchmark for the quantity, quality and diversity of arts and entertainment by emerging and established performers in sundry styles, produced and presented onstage, and webcast live to a global audience, from one primary location during a single two-year period.

Village Green will be a community arts oasis located in the heart of Old New York, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, where pre-set remote-control cameras, lights and sound will allow a single operator to stage-manage, transmit and record an event on high-definition full-bandwidth video. Since all shows will be archived online, the performances will be readily available anywhere anytime. It will be a full-service professional theater center and interactive video studio with the smallest possible footprint, including sound stages, recording studios, rehearsal space, dressing rooms, set, costume, pre- and post-production facilities. We will create an eclectic 24/7 schedule of regular series, special events and festivals to appeal to current as well as develop new audiences for stimulating programs of live, streaming and taped arts and entertainment. The operation will be a model of green tech, a dynamic demonstration of economical, ecological, community-conscious synergy. Through innovative, efficient use of our space and time, we will maximize access to our stages, plus produce a digital cornucopia of creativity, transmitted on all popular platforms and preserved for posterity. In addition to Village Green’s home space, we will launch Green To Go, a mobile van designed and equipped to travel to other venues and locations, where we will record and transmit performances with the same cost-effective efficiency and creativity.

Village Green’s central theme will be an exploration and celebration of popular culture over New York City’s 400 year history. One principal production will be an original DocuDraMusical, Banjos & Bugles: New York’s Civil War in Song, Scene & Spectacle, which we consider a compelling candidate for NYC’s Official Sesquicentennial Project.

The city, nation and world’s creative communities will embrace this opportunity to present their work live on an intimate, affordable New York stage with perfect acoustics, reach a global audience online, and produce professional video to advance their careers. Further, Village Green will attract performers, arts lovers and tourists from around the globe, contributing significantly to the neighborhood and entire city’s economies.

This is an era when an unknown Scottish singer went from virtual obscurity to the top attraction on You Tube within 24 hours. With New York’s rich talent pool and steady stream of visiting performers, we are confident we will discover hundreds of Susan Boyles, world-class artists who may be off the radar now, but deserve broader exposure. Village Green intends to become You Too’b for live performances, a talent greenhouse, where a broad range of solo artists, music, dance, drama and comedy groups present their work before a live and worldwide net audience with professional production values and promotion. We will also edit our finest arts and entertainment into a variety of broadcast-quality programs and series for the global television, home video and mobile markets, creating an important new revenue stream for performing artists.
